Government announced the freezing of rates in public transport in the Metropolitan region

The Ministry of Transport announced during this day that it will freeze the public transport rate in the Metropolitan region, and that, in the case of students and older adults, the price will be maintained throughout the year 2023.

This was stated by the Minister of Transportation, Juan Carlos Muñoz, who indicated that “this is an effort that we make as a country to be able to go out, on the one hand, to support people who need public transportation, who are normally people under the age of income, and, at the same time, being able to continue to make an effort to make public transport as attractive as possible.

However, he assured that the rate freeze cannot be forever, so they will look for other alternatives. “When the end of the first semester approaches, we will have to make a new announcement regarding how the rates will be in the second semester, if they are going to increase or not. That is a conversation that does not depend only on me, but also it is a permanent dialogue with the Ministry of Finance,” added Muñoz.

It should be noted that currently the price of the Red buses is $700 for adults, $230 for students and $350 for seniors, while at rush hour, the Santiago Metro reaches 800 pesos, rates that have been maintained since the 2019 due to the social outbreak.
