Government announced protected trade program for Lastarria and Bellas Artes neighborhoods after indecent events this Monday

Undersecretary for Crime Prevention, Eduardo Vergaraannounced this day that the Government of President Gabriel Boric will launch a protected trade program for the Lastarria and Bellas Artes neighborhoods after the incidents recorded in the last few hours.

It is worth remembering that this Monday night, around thirty people attacked different commercial premises in Barrio Lastarria, Santiago, causing considerable damage to them.

Faced with these facts, the mayor of the commune, Iraqi Hasslerspecified that this situation “dislodges an aggressive and violent attitude against private spaces, against people, against premises, which what they do is contribute to the development of a heritage and cultural neighborhood. We cannot allow this.”

For his part, Vergara indicated that “with the mayor, and as usual, we are in permanent contact and in permanent work, but we also analyze situations on a daily basis.”

Regarding yesterday’s incidents, the authority detailed what the plan consists of: “We are going to join Barrio Lastarria with Barrio Bellas Artes and we are going to start a protected commercial neighborhood program to not only make ourselves present through police action, but with investment, with a plan and a program that the neighbors, tenants and those who are users of these neighborhoods have been waiting for a long time”.

Finally, he reported that the specific plan will be communicated in the coming days.
