Government announced juicy incentive for athletes who win medals at the Olympic Games

Through the official account of the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia, an important announcement has been made for Colombian athletes participating in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The government has decided to grant financial incentives to athletes who win medals, in recognition of their effort and dedication.

It is worth remembering that the Colombian delegation is made up of 89 representatives, a historic milestone for the country, since, for the first time, the Olympic team has a female majority. Of the 89 athletes, 52 are women and 37 are men.

Economic incentive

The announcement of the incentives underlines the country’s commitment to its athletes and the recognition of their hard work and sacrifice. “Our athletes and para-athletes are ambassadors of peace in the world. We recognise their effort and dedication, as well as the support in their preparation for #Paris2024. Our gold, silver and bronze medallists will receive a well-deserved financial incentive,” the Presidency’s publication said.

The amount of the economic incentives for the medalists will be as follows:

  • Gold medal: $343,200,000, equivalent to 264 current legal monthly minimum wages (smmlv).
  • Silver medal: $191,100,000, equivalent to 147 smmlv.
  • Bronze medal: $136,500,000, equivalent to 105 smmlv.
