Government and exit plebiscite: what the networks say about ‘interventionism’

If there has been an information campaign or interventionism, that is up to the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR), which has begun an investigation following an accusation presented by opposition representatives. Specifically, the supervisory body will investigate the actions of the General Secretariat of the Government (Segpres) in the specific execution of the “Chile votes informed” campaign.

In this context, Fundación Interpreta carried out an analysis of the conversation around this topic on Twitter. The research was led by Patricio Durán and Valentina Matus and is available on the platform Context+.

“Since it was reported about the research on July 27, the mentions of the interventionism concept increased substantially, although before they were not at zero,” the researchers point out.

Between June 28 and July 28, 2022, 14,777 original mentions were made by 4,794 unique authors. The first time a substantial increase was recorded was on July 9, when the socialist deputy Leonardo Soto uploaded a video of a meeting between President Gabriel Boric and the Socialist Party board, stating “being able to support the Approval option. The second important rise occurred on July 27, the day of the Comptroller’s announcement.
