Government and Barrick are still studying two possible places

Through a statement the company Barrick and the Government informed on Friday that the tailings dam that will allow the continuity of the exploitation mining in Sanchez Ramirezwill be installed in that province.

The statement of Barrick points out that “the Government believes in an industry mining that guarantees care for the environment, peaceful coexistence with communities and social investment to transform the lifetime of its inhabitants. Activity mining It is the country’s largest export item. 20% of the total export figures correspond to mining products. Last year the country exported US$1.8 billion in gold alone.”

In compliance with this commitment to an industry mining sustainable we have reached an agreement with the company Barrick Pueblo Viejo for the tailings dam to be built in Sanchez Ramirez, area where its operations are located. For the new location there are two options that could be viable for the company mining.

However, the document states that “the definitive authorization of the Dominican Government for the construction of the tailings dam will depend on the result of the environmental impact study that must be submitted to the Ministry of the Environment in compliance with the provisions of Law 64-00 and its regulations”.

The statement indicates that it is “a positive step in the promotion of an industry mining sustainable that allows us to take advantage of our mineral resources in harmony with our environment. In addition, it is a message to the international investment community regarding the legal certainty that exists in the country”.

The statement indicates that the Ministries of the Environment and Energy and Mines ratify their commitment to an activity mining developed with a sense of responsibility regarding the protection of the environment, natural resources and citizen rights.
