Government analyzes different actions to face the problem of drinking water supply

The Secretary of the Presidency, Álvaro Delgado, received the Ministers of Public Health, Karina Rando, and of the Environment, Robert Bouvier, and the President of OSE, Raúl Montero, to discuss with other national and departmental authorities the situation of the drinking water supply in the metropolitan area.

The meeting, held in Torre Ejecutiva, was also attended by the undersecretaries of Public Health, José Luis Satdjian; Social Development, Andrea Brugman, and Environment, Gerardo Amarilla, and the head of the National Emergency System (Sinae), Sergio Rico.

The Minister of the Environment, Robert Bouvier, announced that this Tuesday the 16th in the afternoon the Executive Branch will hold an equivalent meeting, in which the Congress of Mayors will participate.

The most important thing at this stage is to guarantee the supply of water to the population of the metropolitan area, Bouvier pointed out, and, in this sense, he urged the population to make essential use of the water resource.

Likewise, the president of OSE, Raúl Montero, made reference to the situation of the Paso Severino dam, where there are currently some 6,500,000 cubic meters. “We are trying to get less than 300,000 cubic meters a day out of it,” he said. “We are entering a complicated stage with a historical minimum level for the dam,” he specified.

Regarding the construction of a dam announced last week, he said that its objective will be to reduce salinity and control water levels in the area. He also announced that new measures are being evaluated to face all possible scenarios.

For her part, the Minister of Public Health, Karina Rando, pointed out that the situation is monitored daily from the portfolio she directs and recalled that the measures announced days ago are in force. “As long as these levels of salt in the water that we are registering are maintained, the same measures will be maintained,” he said.
