Government allocates RD$18,968 million in fuel subsidies

From March to date, the Dominican government has allocated more than 18,968 million pesos in subsidies to contain the price of all fuelsaccording to the Vice Minister of Internal Trade, Ramón Pérez Fermín.

Official data indicates that the measure was taken by the government in order not to increase the cost of hydrocarbons, but it is effective as long as the price of oil in Texas, the benchmark for the country, remains above 85 dollars a barrel and under $115.

Recently, the Deputy Minister of Internal Trade, Ramón Pérez Fermín, explained that as of Wednesday, June 8, the international price of WTI averaged 119.15 dollars, for an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the previous week.

“This increase gives us a cumulative, so far this year, of 50.1 percent, given that in 2022 oil has come to quote up to 130.50 dollars, numbers not seen since 2008,” said the official in an audiovisual published in the social networks of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM).

Ramón Pérez Fermín highlighted that with this measure Dominicans have saved 83.21 pesos for each gallon of premium gasoline, 90.83 pesos for each gallon of regular gasoline, 92.14 pesos for each gallon of regular diesel and 10.31 pesos more for each gallon of LPG for almost four months.

“Without this extraordinary subsidy, premium gasoline will cost 376.81 pesos today, regular gasoline will cost 365.33 pesos today, regular diesel will cost 313.74 pesos today, optimum diesel will cost 331.02 pesos today and LPG will cost 157.91 pesos today,” he said.

He reiterated that andhe government will assume 100 percent of the increases the week that has just concluded, at a cost of 1,800 million pesos, “protecting the economy of Dominican households and families.”
