Gustavo Petro will arrive at Casa Nariño this Sunday, August 7, along with his vice-presidential ticket, Francia Márquez, and, for now, 18 ministers. One of the flags of his mandate, as he has shown, will be the filing of a tax reform the next day, August 8.

For now, some aspects are known that will be part of the project that will be presented before the Congress of the Republic. One of the sectors on which changes would be made would be the digital economy, in relation to the transactions that are made through the use of technologies.
The incoming government ruled that it will not implement the orange economy policy. Effects that could be seen, for example, in audiovisual investment certificates, which are a 35% tax incentive that benefit platforms such as Netflix, Spotify, Uber, Disney and others.
José Antonio Ocampo, appointed Minister of Finance, assured that these platforms would be sought to pay an income tax. “We are analyzing when the sales size of one of these companies in the country reaches a certain level, that company will be considered to have national residence. We are seeing what level of income”, explained the head of the portfolio.
According to the senior official, some of the rules agreed upon in the inclusive framework of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. This would imply, if it is included in the tax reform, that the products sold by these platforms could increase their price.
It should be remembered that this is not a new proposal and was contemplated in 2021 in the tax reform promoted by Alberto Carrasquilla during the government of Iván Duque.
“We hope in the future, if the tax reform is successful in terms of collection, to make a proposal to reduce the corporate income tax rate, but not now because the uncertainty is greatOcampo assured.

For now, what is contemplated is a wealth tax that is given from the two million liquid pesos and an initial fee of 0.25%. This implies an increase of up to 1% for assets greater than 5 million.
