The government referred this Friday to the death of the widow of the dictator Augusto Pinochet, Lucía Hiriart, and adhered to the request made by the family, which asked for privacy and understanding.
The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado said that “the family of Lucía Hiriart yesterday issued a statement in which they asked for understanding, reserve, privacy and modesty regarding the death of her mother.”
“As a government we adhere to that privacy, we do not have much more to comment on it,” added Minister Delgado.
He also assured that the Government has not sent flowers to Lucía Hiriart’s relatives and said he did not know if condolences were sent.
Regarding the judicial situation of Lucía Hiriart, the Secretary of State stated that “the institutions will have to function (…) and the powers of the state will have to rule in the cases that warrant it or in the cases that no definitions exist “.
