Government activates Emergency Bonus for 35 thousand families affected by Fiona

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government today activated the Emergency Bonus aimed at 35,000 families affected by Hurricane Fiona, which consists of a freely available, unconditional and temporary monetary transfer, designed with the objective of mitigating the impacts of emergency situations.

The provinces most affected by the natural phenomenon and where the deliveries are made are: La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Samaná, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez and Santo Domingo, through the Supérate social program.

Citizens can check if they have qualified for the Emergency Bonus through the link: https://bonoemergencia.superate.gob.do/.

The amount of the Emergency Bonus amounts to RD$5,000.00 Dominican pesos. These will be delivered through a hybrid payment method that includes instruments such as cards and non-endorsable checks, for a total investment of RD$450 million pesos.

103,565 Family Support Bonds will also be delivered, with a single payment of RD$1,500.00 pesos, to those affected by the torrential rains of last November 4 in the Santo Domingo Province and the National District.

During her speech at the official launch of the Emergency Bonus, the general director of Supérate, Gloria Reyes, thanked the collaboration of the institutions that make up social protection and all those who have come together to respond during the phenomenon and to date. .

“Today we can say that the emergency bond is a reality that will act to protect the population in a situation of vulnerability from shocks caused by climate change,” said the official.

On her side, Gabriela Alvarado, representative in the country of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), positively pondered the creation and implementation of this new bond.

“As the World Food Program, we see this Bonus as one more step towards the timely and effective provision of humanitarian assistance from the Dominican State to those who need it most,” he pointed out.

About the Emergency Bonus

The families were selected and classified by the degree of direct affectation, which was determined from the Basic Emergency File (FIBE), and under the responsibility of the Single System of Beneficiaries (SIUBEN), which allowed obtaining information on households and their subsequent prioritization for the selection process as beneficiaries of the Emergency Bonus.

The duration of the contributions of the Emergency Bonus will depend on the level of affectation that the families had. Deliveries are scheduled for two consecutive months for homes that suffered a slight impact; three months for those with medium involvement; and for four consecutive months, those who suffered high or total affectation.

Eligibility criteria include that the household has been directly affected by Hurricane Fiona and that the person is a citizen of the Dominican Republic, resident in the national territory and bearer of a Dominican identity and electoral card.

About the Family Support Bonus

The Family Support Bonus will be delivered on this occasion to 103 thousand 565 families affected by the torrential rains of last November 4 in the Santo Domingo Province and the National District. You will have a single payment of RD$1,500.00 pesos.
