The Government accepted this Thursday the resignation of the presidential delegate of the Atacama Region, Gerardo Tapia. This, after it became known that the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating his chief of staff, Christian Jara -member of the Radical Party-, for a complaint of sexual abuse.
The Executive pointed out in a statement that the current provincial presidential delegate of Chañaral, Jorge Fernandez Herrerawill replace Tapia from tomorrow as a substitute.
The Copiapó Prosecutor’s Office confirmed today that Jara is being investigated for possible sexual abuse. “To date, a statement has been taken from the victim and protection measures have been decreed in favor of her, such as priority contact and periodic rounds by Carabineros,” they said from the Public Ministry, a slogan T13.
“The proceedings continue, we are waiting for their results, and once we have them, the prosecution will make the corresponding decisions regarding the continuation of the criminal process,” they added.
The Atacama Feminist Coordinator denounced on social networks that Jara forced “the sexual act with a woman who was not in a position to consent, in a clear state of vulnerability as a result of the effects of some unknown substance mixed with alcohol.”
The group requested the resignation of the presidential delegate and that the Supreme Court of the Radical Party rule on the regional president of the community, Juan Carlos Latorrebecause, as reported, he was aware of the fact.
