The Future Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies began the discussion of the project that establishes the use of a standardized universal charger for different devices, portable game consoles and other electronic devices.
As reported Radio Biobío, the plan is that the universal charger is applicable to all smartphones, as well as tablets, cameras, headphones, speakers, among others. The standardized format would aim to be the USB-C type.
The norm of the project establishes a transitory period of two years from the publication of the law so that the various traders can take advantage of the new measure.
According to a press report from the Lower House, the undersecretary of Telecommunications, Claudio Araya, attended the instance, who stated that it seems to him “a very good project that he hopes will become law.” However, it has two preventions that must be considered in its processing.
The first one, about specifying that the USB-C connector is the universal connector type, since with advances in technology this can be modified.
“It can be specified with a dimension that indicates that after 5 years of validity, the sectoral authority can authorize a upgrade to the universal connector”, he explained.
On the other hand, he also stated that it would be appropriate to define an exception in the type of USB-C connector to provide other alternatives to the rest of the devices.
It should be noted that the motion was presented to the Lower House by UDI deputies Sergio Bobadilla, Felipe Donoso, Henry Leal, Cristóbal Martínez, Flor Weisse and Daniel Lilayu.
