Goodbye to Bienestarina?: Petro asks the ICBF not to buy it anymore

President Gustavo Petro asked the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF) stop buying Bienestarina, a pre-cooked food “based on a mixture of cereals, legumes and whole milk powder, with vitamins and minerals and essential fatty acids and easy to prepare”.

The president assures that this is “imported and expensive.” Therefore, he suggested prioritize the feeding of children in the country with products grown in Colombia.

When the ICBF delivers Bienestarina it is making a serious mistake, because Bienestarina is wholesale imported products and they distribute it to children, that is where it is not stolen. Well no, in order for children to be nourished, what has to be achieved is that the territory produces enough food and not import it, and well-being must cost us an arm and a leg when the territory should provide that food”, said the head of state.

your statements occurred in the middle of their arrival at the Coyongal corregimiento, in the Magangué municipality, in the department of Bolívar. There the community pots program was installed, a bet that was made by the Government at one of the points of the declaration of natural disaster for the winter.

Along with this, through his Twitter account, the president explained that for the early childhood program to be effective “It must move from the very neoliberal concept of food security, which is based on food imports and large contractors, to food sovereignty in the territory where children live”.

The idea is that these measures are implemented in the emergency humanitarian assistance plan led by the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), in order to guarantee the food security of the victims.
