The former chancellor Javier González-Olaechea requested the different benches of the Congress of the Republic to urge the Executive Branch to recognize Edmundo González Urrutia as president of Venezuela, a few days after the dictator Nicolás Maduro receives the presidential investiture for the third time amid accusations of electoral fraud.
González-Olaechea made this request through his social networks after the Presidency issued a statement ensuring that Maduro’s electoral victory in the July 28, 2024 elections was not recognized.
In the message they also indicated that the results in favor of the dictator Nicolás Maduro are not recognized “as Venezuelan laws have been violated, thus ignoring the legitimate will of the people of Venezuela clearly expressed in said process.”
However, in the statement issued by the Government of Dina Boluarte and despite meeting virtually with González Urrutia and the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, the recognition of Edmundo González as the elected president of Venezuela was not highlighted at any time.
After the presidential elections, the Venezuelan government broke relations with Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay, countries that questioned the results.
It is worth remembering that this January 10, amid complaints of electoral fraud, Nicolás Maduro will receive the investiture for the third consecutive time.
