The national leader of the mining union, Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, recognized the prompt intervention of the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, to move towards a comprehensive solution to the demands of the Cananea workers and thereby lift the road blockade yesterday eight hours after that guild started it.
He specified that López Hernández promised to chair a meeting on September 6 at the offices of the agency under his charge, in Bucareli, with the national and local representation of the miners of Cananea and in which the ways for the solution will be discussed. of the strike that they have been leading for 15 years in the historic copper mine, operated by Grupo México.
Senator Gómez Urrutia specified that the workers grouped in section 65 agreed to López Hernández’s request to lift the blockade on the Cananea-Ímuris highway, which is the border crossing with the United States, and wait for the meeting in September. provided that the proposal was in writing and included the specific points that our colleagues have put on the negotiating table

and the Ministry of the Interior, through its representative in Sonora, Máximo Moscoso, sent an official letter to the delegate of the National Executive Committee of the mining union in the entity, Heriberto Verdugo, in which it is specified that among the topics to be discussed in said meeting are “the repair of the economic damage derived from the termination of their collective contract, as well as analyzing the options so that a significant number of members of section 65 recover their jobs in the Cananea mine.
The leader of the mining union stressed that these are the main demands that the Cananea workers have raised since the strike began in 2007, and it is important that they be reflected in that document, as well as the progress made in incorporating the members of the section 65 to IMSS and Infonavit, as well as reinforce actions aimed at unblocking bank accounts
unions.
In the talk with the Secretary of the Interior, I told him that we continue to trust in his dialogue and in the will of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador so that this government finally brings justice to the workers of Cananea, but they had to understand that it is many years, that their jobs, their collective contract and the possibility of a decent life for themselves and their families were taken from them, and they are desperate.
Senator Gómez Urrutia said that he trusts that before the meeting on September 6, the owner of Grupo México, Germán Larrea, will be forced to sit down to negotiate the petitions of the real workers of Cananea, in order to end a conflict that he caused and that refuses to solve for mere arrogance
.
It is not, he pointed out, a matter of money, because he is one of the richest men in the country, for his immense fortune it is nothing to pay the lost wages of the Cananea miners and the other benefits that correspond to them
. Larrea will be responsible if the miners go to social mobilizations and protests again, he warned.
