Gol and Azul airlines increase frequencies between Uruguay and Brazil

Gol and Azul airlines increase frequencies between Uruguay and Brazil

Upon returning from his participation in the 45th edition of Expointer in Brazil, the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, announced that the Azul company will increase flights between Porto Alegre and Montevideo to seven weekly frequencies starting on Monday the 12th. Meanwhile, Gol, which offered a daily departure between São Paulo and Montevideo, will carry out ten round trip flights per week.

Uruguay participates in the 45th edition of Expointer in “country key”, said Viera, in an interview with Presidential Communication. The Ministries of Tourism and Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries participate in this agricultural fair, which takes place between August 27 and September 4 in the Assis Brasil exhibition park, in the city of Esteio, in Rio Grande do Sul, considered one of the main companies in the sector in Latin America.

Also represented are Uruguay XXI, Banco República, the National Viticulture Institute, the National Meat Institute, the Rural Association, the Rural Federation, the Association of International Congresses and Conventions, and the municipalities of Cerro Largo, Rocha, Treinta y Tres, Cannelloni and Maldonado.

The Tourism portfolio, in particular, presented Uruguay’s offer and recalled that historically Argentina is the main receptive market, followed by Brazil, in an average ratio of four to one, so there is a lot of room to increase activity compared to the last referred country.

In this sense, Viera highlighted that Expointer meant a good opportunity to “update the diversified offer of quality options” offered by Uruguay.

Greater air connectivity with Brazil

The hierarch announced that the Azul airline will increase, as of September 12, the flights between Porto Alegre and Montevideo, to seven weekly frequencies. The presence of this company is complemented by two weekly flights between Montevideo and San Pablo and another two between Porto Alegre and Punta del Este.

Viera announced that, starting this month, the Gol company will increase from offering a daily departure between São Paulo and Montevideo to ten round trip flights per week, while two trips per day are planned for October.

The head of Tourism pointed out that Montevideo is one of Gol’s main destinations in South America and that the international route San Pablo-Montevideo was the first resumed by the company in November 2021.

“Air connectivity continues to grow and that is very important,” acknowledged Viera, adding that efforts are being made to increase frequencies with other destinations. As an example, he mentioned the connections made by Paranair, between Asunción and Montevideo, with five weekly flights, and JetSmart, which connects Santiago and the capital of our country four times a week.

In addition, efforts are being made to increase the number of Avianca flights between Bogotá and Montevideo and those of Copa between Montevideo and Panama. Presidency
