two of the leading companies in the technological field in Uruguay and the region, Globant and Mercado Libre, landed in the country the Certified Tech Develope educational programr (or Certified Technological Developer, in Spanish), after having had previous experience in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia.

The initiative arose “to respond to the unsatisfied demand that exists globally and the opportunity to train more people to join the technology sector”, said Diego Garagorry, country manager of Globant for Uruguay to Coffee & Business.

“Between Globant and Mercado Libre we know what the demands for knowledge are and, for this reason, we decided to create this curriculum together with the support of the Digital House educational institute,” said Garagorry, who also specified that the program was able to land “successfully in Uruguay” thanks to support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and certification from the Technological University of the Interior (UTEC).

training on development of software and soft skills can be studied under two modes: the full time (full time) and the part time (at half time). The first has a duration of 24 months and the second, 33 months.

The initiative hopes to deliver 300 scholarships of 85% so that people can get training. Costs are $1,650 per month in the case of preparation full time and $1,200 in the case of the part time

The first module ends at the end of this year and “the idea is that students can enter the world of work, even in companies such as Globant and Mercado Libre themselves.something that happened in the countries where this training has already been developed,” said Garagorry.

“We seek that more people are interested in studying technology and that is why we intend to provide a channel to join the sector”, specified Garagorry, and added that other objectives of the alliance of this organization is attract people from other sectors to “reconvert to technology”.

“Training in the technological field in Uruguay and its talent are very good and we see that in the people we have been hiring; today Globant has a workforce of more than 1,000 people and the results we see, while working for companies like Google or different banks, are excellent”, concluded Garagorry.

According to data from LinkedIn and the World Bank, 149 million jobs will be created worldwide by 2025 related to the development of software, data, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity and digital products.
