Global protest on September 28 will ask UN countries to recognize Edmundo González

Maria Corina Machado, leader of the opposition, called for a new social activity on September 28, the day that marks two months since the presidential elections were held, in which the dissidents claim that Edmundo Gonzalez, candidate of the Unitary Platform, won and not Nicolás Maduro, as announced by the National Electoral Council.

Opposition leader María Corina Machado called for a worldwide protest to ask countries of the United Nations (UN) to recognize the victory of Edmundo González Urrutia, candidate of the Unitary Platform, in the elections of July 28.

Machado, also founder of Vente Venezuela, made the call on September 14 in the afternoon, in a video published on their social networks, in which some entertainment personalities participated, such as Gabriela Montero, María Gabriela Faría, Mariaca Semprún, among others.

The video also asks nations to hand over power and cease actions of persecution, repression and harassment against opposition leaders and citizens themselves.

The demonstration will also call on the UN to ask the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to take action to stop “crimes against humanity” that have been committed in the country.

The last time the opposition called for a worldwide demonstration was on August 17, less than two weeks after the presidential election and amid political and social tensions following the announcement by the National Electoral Council that President Nicolás Maduro had been the winner of the election.

Two weeks later, on August 28, the opposition called for another mobilization, on the occasion of the one-month anniversary of the elections. During the mobilization, María Corina Machado pointed out that “those who believe that time favors the regime are wrong.”

He added that it is quite the opposite. He assured that “Even the PSUV witnesses, the Chavista witnesses, know about the fraud and do not want to be accomplices. That is powerful.” He told the members of the Armed Forces and the Plan República that “they know what they have to do” based on the Constitution.

One of the slogans that was repeated most often during the rally was “the minutes kill the verdict” and “they didn’t pay attention to it.” Machado herself said that indeed “they didn’t pay attention to it” because “they didn’t dare to publish even a piece of paper,” referring to the minutes of the vote count that they have demanded be made public and verified internationally.
