The citizen Glenn Castellanos charged by the Public Ministry (MP) for the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the teacher and revolutionary militant Carlos Lancewas transferred this Thursday to the Palace of Justice to continue with the hearing of presentation and denunciation.
Castellanos was transferred under strong security measures, as can be seen in a video published by the Twitter account of Venezolana de Televisión.
The accused was taken to the headquarters after being processed by the Review Office of the Criminal and Criminal Scientific Investigations Corps (CICPC) in Parque Carabobo, Caracas, where they verified whether or not Castellanos was involved in any other punishable act.
“Completed the police review of Glenn Castellanos, co-author of the hitman committed against the professor Carlos Lance and now transferred to the Palace of Justice,” reported the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, through his Twitter account.
Glenn Castellanos was charged with the charge of alleged contract killing, association to commit a crime, corruption and simulation of a punishable act in the case of Lanz, kidnapped on August 8, 2020 and later murdered.
“The National Prosecutors will charge Glenn Castellanos, co-author of the crime against Carlos Lanz, with a plurality of crimes,” Saab added in another message.
Other defendants
For the fact, 13 people are charged, by way of necessity and urgency before the 4th Court of Crimes Related to Terrorism and Criminal Gangs, including Maxiorisol Cumare (Lanz’s wife and alleged co-author) for the alleged commission of hired assassins, association for crime, corruption and simulation of a punishable act.
Citizen Tito Viloria was charged with the crimes of contract killing, conspiracy to commit a crime, conspiracy to enter into contracts and simulation of a punishable act. As for Elis Becerra, he is charged with contract killings and criminal association.
For their part, the alleged murderers of Professor Lanz, José Antonio Pinto Moreno and Hely Enrique Pinto Moreno, were charged with contract killings and criminal association.
Zaida Suárez was charged with contract killing, conspiracy to commit a crime, concert to enter into a contract and simulation of a punishable act.
Darwin Zambrano (stepdaughter’s partner), Oliver Medina (Cumare’s lover) and Maryuri Acevedo (domestic) were charged with concealment and simulation of a punishable act, while Diego Atehortua (friend of the brother-in-law) was charged with concealment.
Alyeska Berenice Gil Cumare (stepdaughter) and Abyayala Esperanza Lanz Cumare (daughter) were charged with concealment and simulation of a punishable act.
Open case: accusations continue
Carlos Lanz was initially kidnapped on August 8, 2020 and was later murdered with a firearm, the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, reported this Wednesday at a press conference.
Although so far 13 people have been charged for their involvement in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the professor, the investigations are still continuing, Saab said.
«The accusations continue, I do not rule out new detainees in the case. Investigations are continuing,” Saab said.
“Today with irrefutable, convincing and devastating evidence, we reveal why, when and where this abominable crime occurred and they unworthily pointed the finger at the Venezuelan State,” said the prosecutor, giving an introduction before proceeding to recount chronologically and in detail the details of the case in a press conference held at the headquarters of the Public Ministry this Wednesday.
