The sports director of Borussia Mönchengladbach, Roland Virkus, assured, in statements to the Rheinische Post newspaper, that the Rhenish club will not allow goalkeeper Yann Sommer to leave for Bayern in this transfer period.
“We will not let Yann Sommer go. We have communicated it to Bayern in that way,” Virkus said in statements to the Rhenische Post newspaper.
Bayern have set their sights on Sommer due to the injury to Manuel Neuer -fractured tibia and fibula-, which will keep him away from the pitch for the rest of the season.
The Bavarians currently have Sven Ullreich, Neuer’s regular substitute, but have embarked on a search for a top-tier goalkeeper to cover the loss.
Sommer has become the first choice after Alexander Nubel, currently on loan to Monaco from Bayern, declared that he saw no point in returning to Munich only to find himself on the bench when Neuer was recovered.
The Rheinische Post says that in order to sign Sommer, Bayern would have to make an “immoral offer” to Gladbach.
