Gino Pinasco, one of the owners of the El Diamante shoe factory, dies

Gino Pinasco fue uno de los propietarios de la histórica fábrica de calzado El Diamante.

One of the owners of the historic El Diamante shoe factory and former president of the University Sports Club, Gino Pinasco Pinasco, died today.

LOOK: The cruelty of Sendero Luminoso with political and union leaders

As recalled, the aforementioned factory was attacked in the 80s and 90s by the terrorist groups Sendero Luminoso and MRTA.

According to Peru21 sources, the two subversive groups fought to control their Trotskyist union, one of the most difficult in the Peruvian industry.

Even one of the union leaders, Roberto Chiara, was murdered for not complying with an armed strike.

“This is how snitches and traitors die,” said the message left as a warning.

This was reported Peru21as recalled, in a 2021 report.

It was the early 90s and the terrorist organization led by Abimael Guzmán was already seeking to have a presence in the factory unions and radicalize its bloody struggle.

The workers’ claims mattered little to them. They imposed their ideas and murdered.

Before his death, the proposal of the armed strike by the senderistas reached him. Chiara decided to put it to the consideration of the rest of the members and the rejection was approved. That cost him a shot in the head.

Chiara, with Trotskyist thinking, was also a leader of the Federation of Footwear, Leather and Related Workers of Peru. In that workers’ struggle he was fired several times and also arrested. He never bowed.

THE FACTORY

The company name of the El Diamante factory was originally A. Pinasco SA, and it was owned by Ángel Pinasco, located on Argentina Avenue, according to the blog titled ‘Lima… how we knew it’.

At the beginning of the forties, in addition to the aforementioned factory, it had three warehouses.

In 1943 it decided to expand its capacity by importing six shoe manufacturing machines and two Parsons brand sole cutting machines.

In the seventies they had already opened dozens of stores throughout the country, with Bata Rímac being their main competitor.

In the early 1990s, the state, with its policy of allowing imports, harmed the entire footwear manufacturing sector, reducing sneaker sales by up to 49%.

The situation worsened when the protesters tried to impose terror on the unions, going so far as to assassinate the union leader Roberto Chiara at the door of the same factory.

The situation did not go any further and the company entered into crisis, having to close several of its stores and lay off more than a third of the workforce.

In June 1993, control of the company was handed over to the industrial community, becoming effective on January 20, 1994, but this entity did not fulfill its tasks, and after a long court battle, on October 26, 2001, the administration went to the Bankruptcy Receivership.

This was confirmed by the Supreme Court on September 20, 2002. Finally, the company was declared bankrupt on January 31, 2004.

YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL

For the former heads of Dircote, Max Anhuamán and Héctor Jhon Caro, the lesson that the El Diamante case should teach us is that Sendero, through Movadef, and the MRTA “will always want to infiltrate the unions of companies and factories, as well as in unions, to manage them and recruit adherents for their terrorist groups.

“U” FAN

A passionate fan of the “U”, he was its president, as well as the Circolo Sportivo Italiano.

“The University Sports Club regrets the sensitive death of Gino Pinasco, former president of the club. We send our condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Gino!” was the message published by the merengue institution.

Pinasco was president of Universitario in 2007 and 2010, a key year for the club, in which he played a fundamental role in creating the team that won the national title. During his management, important figures such as Carlos Galván, Rainer Torres and Nolberto Solano arrived, in addition to keeping Juan Reynoso as coach, consolidating a competitive and balanced team, reported Ovación.

During his management at Universitario, he brought Ricardo Gareca, with whom he won the Apertura in 2008.

Under his leadership, the ‘U’ managed to become national champion after an outstanding campaign, marking a milestone in the club’s history.
