In a second publication, the Cuban American legislator added: “You said: ‘We do not want them, we do not need them.’ Well, they reap what they have sown for years. The democracies of the hemisphere do not want to sit down along with dictatories like those of Cuba. Where we are, you will have no place.”

With that statement, the island regime responded to Announcement of the Dominican Republic Foreign Ministrythat this Tuesday reported that the governments of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela would not be invited to the X Summit of the Americas “to guarantee the success of the event and prioritize the participation of the greatest possible number of countries.”
According to the Dominican statement, the summit “became closely coordinated by the Organization of American States (OAS)” and “This framework establishes specific limitations in terms of participation.” Consequently, “the non -invitation to Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela – lands that, for various reasons, have decided not to be part of the OAS and that did not participate in the last edition of the summit of the Americas – constitutes the decision that, given the hemispheric circumstances, favors the greatest call and ensures the development of the forum.”
The Dominican Foreign Ministry stressed that its presidency pro tempore of the mechanism “must be exercised from [una] perspective [multilateral] and depending on the interest of the majority of states that integrate the mechanism ”.

However, the Dominican government has not recognized the legitimacy of the last two presidential elections held there, while the Venezuelan authorities have suspended diplomatic relations.”
The Dominican Foreign Ministry concluded that it adopted “the decision it considers more favorable,” and added: “The Government estimates preferable to create the conditions that ensure the broadest political dialogue, with the highest level of hemispheric representativeness.”
