Giles and Oriente season under water

The number of political prisoners in Cuba amounts to 1,148, denounces Prisoners Defenders

Gil’s decisions were celebrated and approved unanimously in the National Assembly of People’s Power, which was not capable of safeguarding the interests of the people it claims to represent.

HAVANA.- People don’t want to talk about distraction and yet they can’t help it. He knows that the candle is in the provinces of the East and that it will take a while to go out because since before the passage of the Hurricane Melissa, The Cuban state was already without the capacity to respond. What is happening right now in the East is heartbreaking, and we can deduce it just from what we see in the images. Experiencing it firsthand must be a thousand times worse, distressing and outrageous, which is why all of Cuba, inside and outside, had its eyes on the victims of the disaster, who will be victims for a very long time.

This was the case until the night of Friday, October 31, when the order was given to push the pAlejandro Gil’s pajamas -former economy minister- and set it on fire in front of the entire nation. That’s a big candle, and with more drag – potentially – than the Cauto River, which has left thousands of homes under water and thousands of people without shelter or sustenance. I say potentially because Cuban justice is in the hands of the same people who knew, covered up and, most likely, participated in the crimes that Gil is now accused of, which are so many, so serious and committed in such a short time, that it seems that his only function at the head of the Ministry of Economy was to commit crimes.

Now it is time to conduct the farce carefully so that the candle does not rise above the knees, while managing to divert a little attention from the crisis in the East, from the exponential increase of the epidemiological risk because of the floods, of the looming famine due to the loss of the little that is still produced in Cuba, of the dealing with donations, of the little dog mercilessly abandoned by the rescuers of a regime that approved an Animal Welfare Law just to get rid of the claims of animal rights activists, of the meanness of that same regime, which considers it an act of benevolence to grant bank loans and sell materials at half price to families who, before the hurricane, did not even have what enough to feed.

They try to move the focus away from all of this by sacrificing Alejandro Gil, who was very comfortable in the depths of collective forgetfulness. According to the note from the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, all the blame is his, but we know that this is not the case, and among the many readings that could be derived from this unexpected move, is the possibility of dismantling the current government of Miguel Díaz-Canel, whom Cubans consider osogboirrelevant, clumsy, short-sighted and lacking in charisma, among other negative qualities. Díaz-Canel not only appointed Alejandro Gil as Minister of Economy, he also praised his suitability and supported him when he said that the year 2021 – in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic – was the right time to apply the Monetary Regulation, the drift of which has led us to an economic and social catastrophe that far exceeds the Special Period of the 1990s.

Díaz-Canel was the tutor of Alejandro Gil’s doctoral thesis, which means that, in addition to professing trust and friendship, he honored him with his academic endorsement, which is the same as a glob of mud from the thick quagmire that the scientific degree commissions of Cuban universities have become, but it counts as another accolade. That spy, embezzler, money launderer, forger, influence peddler, tax evader, offender and thief, was defended by the current President of the Republic every step of the way, and affectionately dismissed by him after his separation from office, recognizing his performance as a service to the Homeland.

Gil’s decisions were celebrated and approved unanimously in the National Assembly of People’s Power, which was not capable of safeguarding the interests of the people it claims to represent, while the acts of corruption occurred under its own nose and that of the Comptroller General of the Republic. Liborio pays four hundred and seventy salaries to as many deputies who only dedicate themselves to applauding, justifying and allowing, so that they too are allowed to do their thing.

Not a single one of that crowd is saved, so Gil is not alone in this fall. Your daughter, who recently remembered that the people of Cuba exist, has asked for a public and televised trial with access to the entire press, because he knows that his father has a lot to say, something that is also known by those who, from the highest crest of power, ordered his public burning. A political earthquake is the only distraction maneuver that could be effective in the midst of the chaos left by Melissa, and that has begun to translate into protests where the poor of this land shout to the olive green caste, in its face, that the blockade is internal.

They had probably been preparing it for some time to release it in the ideal context, but the hurricane rushed them. Almost at the end of October, the third promotion (in less than two years) of Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fragascion of the Castro family, who could replace Díaz-Canel as soon as the National Assembly names him a deputy, a simple formality that can be carried out in an extraordinary session, at the will of the one in power and without the participation of the Cuban people.
