The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, called on Monday the countries that make up Latin America and the Caribbean to step forward and defend the peace zone, before the military deployment of the United States in the Caribbean.
During the Extraordinary meeting From foreign ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), Gil stressed that “the situation we are living is an unpublished situation.”
«From the missile crisis in the 60s, when regional peace was put at risk in an important way, we had not lived such a situation. We are talking that the United States has concentrated military assets near the Venezuelan coasts, we are talking about eight military vessels, ”he said.
The Foreign Minister asked “the entire Latin American and Caribbean community, the 33 countries that we are members of this community, to step forward in defense of the peace zone.”
He added that, as seen in the media and what was said by the US spokesmen, they would be “eight ships with more than 1,200 missiles aboard them, 4,200 trained troops that have announced that they are ready and prepared to invade the sacred ground of our homeland.”
Gil warned that even more serious is the presence in the Caribbean of a nuclear submarine, «with the possibilities of launching nuclear weapons that violates not only the peace zone, declared in 2014, but would also be violating the Tlatelolco treaty that since 1967 is a mandatory treaty for us; And since 1971, even in the protocol the United States himself was committed to its respect and application ».
He considered that the main element of this meeting is to preserve the peace zone in the region, as well as condemn and demand the immediate retirement of these military assets of “our coasts and our Caribbean Sea, and reaffirm respect for the Tlatelolco Treaty and the Paz Zone Declaration.”
False narrative as an excuse for deployment
The Chancellor warned the use of a false narrative as an excuse to carry out the US military deployment. “As an excuse for this unusual and rude deployment on our coasts, a totally false narrative has been used, pointing to Venezuela and our President Nicolás Maduro Moros as leaders of an alleged cartel called Cartel de los Soles, which would be dedicated to the smuggling of narcotics in this region.”
The minister emphasized that it is a narrative that is denied, even by the US agencies, “the United States Department of State Department itself; The UNODC report, which is the United Nations Agency for Drug Control and Combat of Organized Crime, has repeatedly indicated that Venezuela, in the first place, is a territory free of illicit crops.
Citing the United Nations report, stressed that the 87% of drug trafficking Of cocaine that leaves the production centers of Colombia, and which is destined eeuu, uses the Pacific Route, while 8% leave the Guajira to the Caribbean Sea and only 5% try to pass through Venezuela.
In addition, he recognized the work of the country’s security agencies in the fight of these facts, since of that 5%, “70% is seized” thanks to the operations that are done in the country.
Threat to the entire region
Gil warned that US military action does not represent only an attack against Venezuela, but is the positioning of a narrative that threatens the entire region.
He stressed that it is necessary for CELAC to be in front of condemning and immediately demand the withdrawal of military assets. He added that this demand was also made by the Bolivarian Alliance for the peoples of our America-Treatment of Commerce of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP).
«Any war against Venezuela, using a false pretext such as drug trafficking, when we have exhibited important achievements in this matter, would really mean a complete destabilization of the entire region. It is not an attack against Venezuela nothing more, what we are seeing is the positioning of a narrative that threatens an entire region, ”he warned and said that the consequences would be incalculable.
Venezuela is prepared for defense
The minister said that Venezuela is repaired, ready and with its available means “well oiled” for the defense of the country, stating that no aggression can stop the progress and plans of both economic growth and prosperity for the people.
He stressed that Venezuela is united and has more than 4,500,000 militiamen and militia have been enlisted for the defense of the territory and sovereignty.
