The People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, dismissed as a “blow” the issuance of the so-called License 42 made by the Office of Control of Foreign Assets (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury (USA) to take over Citgo, against the advances obtained by the international conference on the political situation in Venezuela, convened in Bogotá by the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, held on April 25.
According to a press release sent by the Foreign Ministry, the complaint was made by the Foreign Minister before the diplomatic representatives accredited in Caracas of the countries that attended the summit organized by the Colombian Executive, namely: French Republic, Plurinational State of Bolivia, Portuguese Republic , United Mexican States, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Republic of Türkiye, Republic of Argentina, Kingdom of Spain, Italian Republic, Federal German Republic, Republic of Chile, Federative Republic of Brazil, Kingdom of Norway, Republic of South Africa, Republic of Colombia and a representative of the European Union.
“We have expressed the ridicule that this license has meant against the spirit of the meeting called by President Petro,” emphasized Minister Gil from the Antonio José de Sucre Yellow House, at the end of the meeting.
He highlighted the “good faith” with which most of the 20 countries that participated in the meeting in Bogotá attended to provide solutions to the situation in the country.

In addition, he highlighted that at the conference in Colombia, almost unanimously, the US government was asked to initiate a process of lifting the unilateral coercive measures, “not only because they are illegal and contrary to international law, but because that would also facilitate The dialogue in Venezuela, and the blow that the US government has given against this conference, we have seen consummated on May 1”, the date that OFAC issued its license.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister affirmed that they will continue to inform each of the foreign ministries of the situation that implies the impact of this license, contrary to international legislation and the Bolivarian Constitution.
