Gil Chancellor: UN humanitarian aid figures seek to "cover up scandal"

Foreign Minister Yván Gil said that this money of humanitarian aid “ended in the pockets of the opponents, in bank accounts abroad, in financing for media campaigns”, in addition to “the organization of guarimbas, in the purchase of weapons and even In drug supply to feed violence in the streets »

Venezuelan Chancellor Yván Gil said on Wednesday, February 12 that the figures of the United Nations System on Humanitarian Aid delivered to Venezuelans in 2024 seek to “cover up the scandal” of alleged diversion of funds from the United States.

“Some United Nations system bureaucrats intend to wash the corrupt face that looted the funds for Venezuelans,” Gil said in his Telegram channel.

According to the official, the figures published by the Office of Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs on the aid in health, food, drinking water or security to 3.5 million Venezuelans in 2024 They are “misleading.”

He also said that both the resources of USAID (United States Agency for International Development, for its acronym in English) and other agencies “never really came to those who needed it most.”

«Given the imminent fall of the castle of lies, they take inflated reports to pretend they did something. What there was was an operation of corruption and sabotage, disguised as ‘humanitarian aid’, ”he said.

Gil also said, without giving more details or evidence, that this money of humanitarian aid “ended in the pockets of the opponents, in bank accounts abroad, in financing for media campaigns”, in addition to “the organization of Guarimbas, in the purchase of weapons and even in the drug supply to feed violence in the streets ».

The United States government launched a temporary measure, for 90 days, to “reduce public spending and bureaucracy, reassess the effectiveness of programs and prevent the possible improper use of funds.”

At the beginning of February the USAID offices were closed and their suspended activities. According to Magnate Elon Musk, head of the US government efficiency department, President Donald Trump agreed to dismantle her.

In 2024, according to data from the United States government, USAID distributed more than 44,000 million dollars in global aid. Of this sum, around 2.3 billion dollars were directed to initiatives in Latin America in health, education or strengthening of democracy.
