The XIX Gibara International Poor Cinema Festival (FICG) Start this Tuesday in that city in the province of Holguín. Its cultural program includes forums, workshops, jazz downloads and the projection of the 90 films registered in the official selection of the contest.
Closers from 30 countries will opt for the Lucia awards in the fiction, documentary, animation and video art categories, said FICG President Sergio Benvenuto Solás.
The Cuban actress Verónica Lynnfilm critic Luciano Castillo and the Casa Gitana Cultural Project will receive the Honor Lucia granted by the Festival, awards that take his name from the homonymous film of Cuban filmmaker Humberto Solás (1941-2008).
Spain is the country with the most registration in this edition, although there are representations of all continents, said the president of the Festival and Sobrino de Solás, who promoted in 2003 this initiative defending the concept of promoting a “poor cinema in resources, but rich in ideas”.
The film contest will take the streets of the coastal city of Gibara until next Saturday, with proposals that cover from concerts to plays and theoretical sessions, he said.
It contemplates the realization for the second consecutive year of the poor film factory, a project to financially support the audiovisual filmmakers of the provinces of the east region (Holguín, Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo, Granma, Las Tunas and Camagüey).

A pitching session (presentation of a project in order to attract financing) will also be organized, from which one or several production support awards will be awarded.
