Gibara Film Festival concludes: meet the winners

XVIII Festival Internacional de Cine de Gibara

AREQUIPA, Peru – With 83 works in the competition, the 18th edition of the Gibara International Film Festival in Holguín, affiliated with the state-run Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), concluded this weekend.

The Documentary and Animation Jury awarded as best documentary to A home without a closet (Spain-Argentina, 2023), by Eduardo Cubillo; while the award for best animation went to Poppies at my window (Colombia, 2023), by Grettel Melissa Quintana.

Also in that section they were mentioned Jivaro (Documentary short film, Cuba, 2023), by Osmanys Sánchez Arañó; Assum Preto, A cry from the sidelines (Documentary short film, Brazil, 2023), by Cícero Fraga; and Glass ceiling (Animated short film, Argentina, 2022), by Liliana Romero.

This year, the Gibara International Film Festival resumed Cine en Construcción, which awarded this evening Havana Social Club Boxing (Documentary feature film in development, Italy-Spain-Cuba), by Cristiano Regina.

He also received a mention The day of collection (Fiction short film in development, Cuba), by Luis Lago; and Reportage (Fiction feature film in development, Mexico), by Nicolás Gutiérrez Wenhammar.
