‘Ghost items’ case: Angélica Sosa’s appeal rejected after not being able to disprove two procedural risks

The Criminal Chamber ndenied the appeal to the preventive detention of Angélica Sosa for the ‘ghost items’ case, for which she is accused of the crimes of breach of duties, uneconomic conduct and contracts harmful to the State. This determination was made because the defendant could not disprove the existence of two procedural risks against him.

“Angélica Sosa is in detention only for two procedural risks; by the possibility of influencing some witnesses, that the Public Ministry negligently, in more than 220 days, does not call them to declare, and, secondly, because being released could modify some elements of evidence”, explained his defense attorney Jerjes Justiniano.

The jurist said that the former mayor of Santa Cruz de la Sierra already served the term of his 225 days of detention in Palmasola for the ‘ghost items’ case, for which he announced that he will request an end to his imprisonment next week in a new hearing.

“Sosa was given a total of 225 days of detention (first 180 and then an extension of 45) and that period ended on August 3, so he is waiting for a hearing date to be set, in which his freedom should be ordered, because the time for the investigation and his detention has already expired,” he added.

Xerxes indicated that for the ‘irregular contracts’ casein which the hiring of 1,200 people during the electoral campaign is investigated, also The term of the 120 days of detention of his client, on August 22, has already expired.
