After being ratified this Sunday, January 5, by the board of directors of the National Assembly (AN), for the period 2025-2026the authorities of the national Parliament evoked a series of announcements in what will be this new political-legislative action of the country; among which the following stand out:
1- Call to Maduro to swear in as re-elected President before the AN
In his first legislative act of 2025, the president of the AN, deputy Jorge Rodríguez (Psuv /Dtto. Capital), signed a communication which reiterates the invitation to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, for his swearing-in on January 10, in order for him to take possession of his position as re-elected president, until 2031, before Parliament.
In this sense, he highlighted that the seat of parliament is the only place established by the Constitution so that the head of state can be sworn in to hold office.
During the installation ceremony for the 2025-2026 legislative period, Rodríguez specified that the swearing-in call is at 12 noon at the Federal Legislative Palace headquarters.
2- Election year
The President of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, pointed out that the Legislative Branch places itself at the command of the President of the Republic to carry out “the necessary studies and discussions that allow progress in the proposal to reform the constitution that he made in recent days.” .
“This year the president has proposed a constitutional reform. From here we are waiting for the drawing of that proposal and we make available the National Assembly, which is the political space par excellence of the Republic, to accompany the elaboration, together with the people, of proposals so that this constitutional reform leads to an option that it be endorsed and defended by the great majority of the people,” he highlighted.
Likewise, he recalled that this 2025 in the country there will be elections to choose new deputies, while ensuring that “we do not believe in deputies for life.”
“We do not hold hereditary positions or eternal positions or lifetime positions, we believe in democracy and we believe in the vote of the People and we believe in the free expression of the People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” he stated.
3- Request to the Public Ministry
The president of the Legislative Branch indicated that the National Assembly will request the Public Ministry to immediate arrest of the former presidential candidate, Edmundo González Urrutiaif he were to enter Venezuela.
“This unworthy being, supported by his masters from the north, has been saying a series of nonsense, including that he will return to the territory of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. We are obliged to contribute to the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic and that is why each deputy who defends the country, we will request, in the event that he touches an inch of our territory, his immediate arrest for violating the Liberator Simón Bolívar Organic Law, for usurpation of functions, for treason against the country, for money laundering,” he warned.
Along these same lines, he added that they will declare former presidents Tuto Quiroga of Bolivia “persona non grata”; Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderón of Mexico, who in his opinion are “fully identified with the Venezuelan extreme right.”
“Unauthorized foreigners who enter Venezuela will be judged as invaders,” he emphasized.
4- Political Dialogue
Likewise, Jorge Rodríguez assured that in Venezuela the time has come for extremism to be isolated. “The time has come for all of us to unite, regardless of our political tendency, and agree so that political dialogue is the mechanism to resolve differences and difficulties,” he noted.
“It is dangerous and even an act of irresponsibility to try to dialogue with people who have a dagger in one hand because they are foreign agents, because they are violent, because they seek the dissolution of the Republic. We do not want to argue with them, we are not going to argue with them, for them we have a constitution and laws to apply,” he concluded.
