Get to know the key destination for soybean exports

The region of the Americas, in particular Latin America, has immense potential to increase exports of soy US and other agricultural products, therefore, the main US agricultural cooperators met in Lima, Peru, on September 7 and 8 to deepen their relationship with the region and discuss the main challenges around the growing demand for soy and other agricultural products.

Cooperators included the Export Council of Soy from USA (USSEC); the US Wheat Association (USW); the US Grain Council (USGC), and the US Rice Federation.

The Conference of Agricultural Cooperators of the Americas 2022 brought together more than a hundred industry representatives from the Americas region, in particular from Latin America, a market that in 2021 registered imports of almost 7,000 million dollars (14.4 million metric tons) of US soybeans and a record imports of 75,000 million dollars in total US food and agricultural products.

Population growth, poverty reduction (recently overshadowed by Covid-19) and the growth of the middle class have led to an overall increase in livestock production and meat consumption and, in turn, to more exports of soy America to the region in recent years.

In addition, the Conference had conferences and panels on innovation, quality and sustainability, which allowed attendees to learn about and analyze different topics and trends around the world trade of soyrice, corn and wheat.

“This great conference allowed the leaders of the region to learn about the different perspectives of production, market expectations, animal nutrition and applied sustainability. It was an excellent platform to learn from each other in an effort to build a joint path towards a more sustainable agricultural future,” said Carlos Salinas, director of the Americas region at the Export Council of the Soy of USA (USSEC).
