Get to know the agenda of Holy Week celebrations that starts this Saturday at the Cathedral

This Friday, April 8, the agenda for the Holy Week celebrations, which will take place in the Santa Cruz Cathedral. The announcement was made by the Archbishop of Santa Cruz, Monsignor Sergio Gualberti, and the Vicar of Communication, Hugo Ara.

The celebrations will begin on the night of this Saturday, April 9, with a staging of the Passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, which will be presented in the atrium of the Cathedral, at 20:00.

Palm Sunday

On April 10, the day on which Holy Week begins and the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, mounted on a donkey, is remembered, the solemn Eucharist will be held in the atrium of the Cathedral, from 07:00 to 08:30. There will also be masses inside the temple at 09:30, 11:00 and 18:00.

Holy Tuesday

Tuesday, April 12, is the so-called Priest’s Day, because in the celebration at 7:00 p.m., known as the Chrism Mass, the priests of the archdiocese renew their vows before the archbishop, they renew their consecration and dedication to Christ and to the Church. In addition, in this celebration the holy chrism is consecrated and the oils are blessed, which are used in sacraments such as baptism and confirmation, as indicated by the Catholic portal Aleteia.

Holy Wednesday

April 13 is Penitential Day, since is dedicated to confessions. “The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Penance offers us the merciful forgiveness of God the Father and makes them participants in the victory of Jesus over the evil of sin in our lives,” says the Archbishop’s statement on this sacrament.

At 08:00 there will be mass in the Cathedral, while at 11:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. the penitential celebration will take place.

Holy Thursday

On Thursday, April 14, Holy Thursday will be celebrated, when the Institution of the Eucharist is remembered. In the morning, at 10:00, as every year, the Easter celebration for the elderly, sick and people with disabilities.

At 19:00, in the atrium of the Cathedral, the celebration of the Lord’s Supper will take placein which it is also recalled that Jesus washes the feet of his disciples “as a sign of service and leaves us the Eucharist to always remain with us”, as they explain from the Church.

From 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament, which marks a time of Adoration.

Holy Friday

On April 15, the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ are remembered. activities start at noon, with the Meditation of the 7 wordswhich will be in charge of priests, religious and laity.

At 2:30 p.m. the Declave of Jesus will take placein charge of the Apostles of the Nativity of the Lord Chapel.

From 17:00 to 18:00 the Passion of the Lord will be celebrated in the Atrium of the Cathedral. Concluded the celebration will proceed to the procession with the Holy Sepulcher

“The cross is the final culmination and fulfillment of his love to the extreme. The Eucharist is not celebrated on this day. but the Liturgy of the Word”, explains the Archbishopric.

From the 7:30 p.m. and until 10:00 p.m. the wake of the Holy Sepulcher will be held.

Holy Saturday

Saturday April 26 is dedicated to the Easter Vigil, which begins at 8:00 p.m., with the fire, outside the temple, and continues inside. In this celebration the faithful await the resurrection of Christ.

Resurrection or Easter Sunday

On Sunday, April 17, the bells that had been silent during Lent will ring again, to celebrate that Jesus has risen and celebrate Easter. Masses in the Cathedral will be celebrated at 07:00, 09:00, 11:00 and 18:00.
