The Mayor’s Office of Miches and GIZ signed an agreement for the comprehensive management of solid waste and recycling of plastics
The objective of the agreement is to implement joint actions that promote the reduction of the use of plastics, recycling and better management of solid waste in the Miches municipality.
According to the agreement, the “Miches Cleaner” program will be implemented, which promotes a local culture for waste classification and recycling in Miches. In addition, it promotes waste prevention actions, the development of participatory local awareness days and the establishment of pilot projects that allow improving the value chain for businesses in the intervention communities.
Svenja Paulino, director of the Biodiversity and Business Program in Central America and the Dominican Republic of GIZ, explained that comprehensive waste management is of vital importance to mitigate negative impacts on the environment. “With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, we contribute to the mayor’s office continuing to advance in the institutional management of waste with the participation of the communities, organizations, and businesses of this town,” she explained.
Luz María Mercedes, mayor of Miches, positively valued the agreement and highlighted the role that GIZ is playing in the conservation of biodiversity in that locality. “From the Mayor’s Office we are committed to coordinating with all local actors and fulfilling each of our responsibilities with the aim of increasing the local culture of prevention in our municipality.”
