At least three people were injured after a World War II bomb exploded during construction work near the Donnersberger Bridge in the southern city of Munich, a police spokesman said.
Carolin Schrott, a police spokesman, specified that the explosion was caused by an old aviation bomb and occurred shortly after 12:00 local time in a place near the Donnersbergerbruecke train station, in that city, capital of the state of Bavaria
Speaking to the media, Schrott added that investigations suggest that while drilling was being carried out at the site, workers accidentally caused the explosive device to detonate by hitting it.
For his part, the Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Hermann, assured that it was a bomb from the Second World War weighing 250 kilos, adding that the area was secured because after its explosion the debris flew hundreds of meters away .
In Germany, according to experts, half of the 2.7 million tons of bombs dropped by the allied powers during World War II fell and thousands are still buried unexploded, so accidents like the one that occurred in Munich this Wednesday are relatively frequent.
