Judges Alice González Delorenzi and María Luisa Bajac, of the Court of First Instance for Children and Adolescents in Asunción, issued sentences on Friday night in favor of the international restitution of the 10 and 11-year-old girls, whose search in the country gained notoriety in recent weeks.
“The girls return to Germany by agreement of the parents in both cases,” González explained this Saturday to Efe about the decision, which approved what was agreed by the four parents of the girls.
In a statement, the lawyers Stephan Schultheiss (in Paraguay) and Ingo Bott (in Germany) pointed out that the court ordered the release of the girls “along with their parents Anne Maja Reiniger and Filip Blank”, who activated the process to locate their daughters.
The little ones arrived in Paraguay on November 27, 2021 with two of their parents -Andreas and Anna Maria Egler-, who did not request the consent of their ex-partners to travel.
The first versions indicated that the Egler couple sent a farewell letter to the other parents in which they declared themselves against the girls being vaccinated against covid-19.
Faced with the transfer without their authorization, the parents in Germany began the process for the return of the minors.
The girls remained unaccounted for since last November until this Thursday, when the Egler couple appeared before the Paraguayan authorities near the town of Trinidad, department of Itapúa.
The adults were wanted on a red alert from Interpol.
In the case of girls, a yellow notice was issued, which is published in cases of victims of kidnapping by one of their parents, retentions or unexplained disappearances.
Regarding the return of the little ones, González indicated that they ordered that “it be prompt and safe”, without specifying further details.
The magistrates lifted the search and location measures for the four foreigners, as well as the ban on leaving the country.
They also revoked the authorization to spread the images and identities of the girls.
The decision does not cover the custody of the girls, a matter to be decided by the German authorities.
The magistrates, who worked in coordination, announced their sentences after the hearings held in Asunción, which were attended by the four parents and the girls.
The lawyers indicated in their note that Andreas and Anna Egler “have declared that they will return to Germany next week” and once there “they would face all the corresponding legal procedures.”
“With this the process will return to Germany. That’s where it should be,” added the legal representatives of Reiniger and Blank, who asked “the privacy of all parties involved to be respected.”
The head of the Surveillance Area of the Coordinator for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CDIA), Dante Leguizamón, whose organization has accompanied the families, told Efe that the parents agreed to “return as soon as possible.”
