German Embassy in Chile criticizes sale of figures of SS soldiers: “We cannot remain indifferent to the trivialization of the Nazi dictatorship”

Until this Tuesday, the El Mercurio Readers Club promoted and sold various figures of the SS, the paramilitary organization of Nazi Germany, on its website. The rejection of the national Jewish communities was such that the news caused an international stir.

This, since the event reached the ears of the German Embassy in Chile, which regretted the situation recorded.

“We regret that in the 21st century, figures representing SS soldiers are marketed as collector’s items and/or exhibits, who, being the spearhead of the Nazi regime, carried out war crimes and crimes against humanity,” they said.

“Aware of our commitment to historical truth, we cannot remain indifferent to the trivialization of the Nazi dictatorship, its accomplices and its symbols,” they added.

It should be noted that the article in question was part of a collection that indicated that replicas of the SS Untersturmführer could be purchased for $2,690 for members of the Club de Lectores and for $2,990 for the general public, with an available stock of 129 figures.

Along the same lines, they aimed to invite “to approach this complex historical period from a perspective linked to democratic values, human rights and the testimonial legacy of the victims, in order to promote a true process of reflection that allows avoiding the errors of the past”.
