Georgieva: "It is very important that Argentina stays the course" economic

President Alberto Fernández and the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, met this Wednesday in Bali, Indonesia, in a meeting in which the head of the organization expressed to the head of state the importance of maintaining the economic course in Argentina.

“It is very important that Argentina stays the course as it has done so successfully in recent months,” Georgieva said after the meeting in statements to the press.

The meeting was held between 5:25 p.m. (local time, 6:25 in Argentina) and 6:15 p.m. (7:15 in Argentina) in the Tampa Ksiring room of the Hotel Meliá.

At the meeting, Fernández was accompanied by Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero; the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa; and the Argentine ambassador to the United States, Jorge Argüello.

For her part, Georgieva was together with Gita Gopinath, Economic Counselor and Director of the Department of Studies; Kristina Kostial, deputy managing director of the agency; Christian Mumssen, Finance Director; and Krishna Srinivasan, director of the Asia and the Pacific department.

At the meeting, there was talk of the cost of the war in Ukrainewith the idea of ​​reducing the debt payment goals, while, above all, the issue of flight attendants, Georgieva promised to address it on the board next Decembersaid official sources.

Fernandez and Georgieva they had had one last contact on September 19 in New Yorkin the framework of the 77th Period of Sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations, an opportunity in which he had asked for a solution to the “overcharge problem”a “fairer” distribution of the Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) and the creation of a Resilience and Sustainability Fund.

At that time, the President had asked the head of the Fund to consider the negative influence of the current international context on Argentina.

On that occasion, Georgieva praised the progress of the government’s economic program that day.

In addition, Fernández reiterated to the head of the Fund his concern to find a solution to the problem of surcharges, also known as surcharges charged by the IMF; a fairer distribution of the Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) and the implementation of the Resilience and Sustainability Fund.
