George Fuente: “It is a privilege to be the chief of the Hialeah Police”

MIAMI, United States. – The chief of the Hialeah Police Department, the Cuban-American George Fuente, assured this Wednesday to CubaNet who considered it a privilege to have been named to hold this position in the second most populous city in Miami-Dade.

At the end of March this year, the 43-year-old officer and son of Cuban parents, was officially appointed by the mayor of Hialeah, Stephen Bovoto occupy his current position.

Fuente, who was born in the United States and has never visited the island, also stated that he felt Cuban. “My friends, my family, have Cuba in their hearts. I am an American but I love Cuba,” he said.

He also indicated that since he was a child he had the intention of becoming a police officer and serving his community. “My dad bought me uniforms and the badge. I started at the age of 14 as a Police cadet (…) and I became an officer at 19. It’s been 25 years as a police officer,” he asserted.

Fuente also said that it was a great honor to be the mayor of the “city that progresses” since his family resides there and because he himself was a “product of Hialeah”.

Regarding his plans, he commented that he intended to make Hialeah the safest city in the county, for which he needs to recruit more officers.

“Police are always here to help in any way the mayor or our elected officials see fit,” he said.

Prior to his appointment, Fuente had been chief commander and major of the Patrol Commission, major of the Administrative Division, chief of the Criminal Investigations Division, and deputy police director.
