"generous donation" of Queen Elizabeth II to help displaced people from Ukraine

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II made a “generous donation” to a coalition of humanitarian associations, following a request to help refugees fleeing Ukraine, the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) said on Thursday.

This committee (“Disasters Emergency Committee”), which includes 15 NGOs, including the British Red Cross, Oxfam and Save The Children, thanked the queen on Thursday for “having made a generous donation” as a result of her “call humanitarian for Ukraine”.

In the message, published on Twitter, it was not specified how much the sum amounts to.

The associations grouped in the DEC act in Ukraine and in neighboring countries to help refugees and displaced people. The conflict, the worst to break out in Europe in decades, has pushed more than a million people from their homes, according to the UN.

Although the royal family observes strict political neutrality, several of its members recently cast aside their usual discretion to express solidarity with Ukraine after Russia launched an invasion.

Prince Charles, heir to the British crown, said on Tuesday that this military operation constitutes an attack “against freedom” and declared “solidarity with all those who resist brutal aggression.”
