“As an institution, we need all of Chile to take care of those who take care of us. Each year, 6,000 police officers are injured in the line of duty. 15 police officers daily. Annually, we make an average of 2,500 complaints of mistreatment of police officers on duty. Carabineros shoot at us and attack us every day,” added Yáñez.
In addition, the highest authority of the uniformed institution summoned the authorities, stating that “Let’s put an end to the questioning, affirmations, light and public accusations, without foundation, that only damage the authority of those who by law must protect us. What else has to happen? How many more martyrs do we have to cry for those responsible to receive the legal punishment they deserve?
Along the same lines, Yáñez recalled the institution’s martyrs, specifying that “if these criminals do not receive the punishment they deserve, they will continue to kill the only men and women who are always there to protect the community and willing to surrender their life when required, his carabineros”.
“We are not going to rest until we find them and make them available to justice so that they effectively serve their sentence without benefit,” he added, indicating that the capture of the author of the shots “is a matter of time.”
