Through Resolution No. 438, published on December 27 in the official newspaper El Peruano, the institutional command of the National Police of Peru approved the assignment of positions of 71 generals of arms and seven generals of Health for the year 2026, as part of the regular process of rotations in high command at the national level.
In this context, the recently promoted General José Luis González Quinteros was appointed as the new head of the Huánuco Police Region, replacing General Humberto Alvarado López, who will assume functions in the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety in the city of Lima. González Quinteros arrives from the Ica Police Region and will have the police divisions of Huánuco, Tingo María and Puerto Inca under his jurisdiction.
Among the main challenges of his management is the strengthening of the fight against illegal mining in the province of Puerto Inca, an activity that has been seriously affecting regional conservation areas. In the city of Huánuco, high incidence crimes such as vehicle theft persist, in addition to ongoing relevant investigations, including the murder of the transporter Junior Anthony Atachagua Reyes and the double homicide of foreign citizens allegedly linked to the collection of the so-called “gota a gota”.
In accordance with the provisions, the changes in senior police officers will come into effect as of January 1, 2026, some at a cost and others at no cost to the State.
