Percy Ipanaqué, attorney to the minister Geiner Alvarado Lopezadvanced—in statements to La República—that the current head of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) will not resign from office, despite the fact that a sector of Congress requests his resignation, within the framework of the investigations carried out by the Special Team led by the prosecutor Marita Barreto for the alleged criminal organization that he would integrate together with the president peter castle.
“A resignation from office is not evaluated, there is no way. Let us remember that the minister (Geiner Alvarado) is in a different ministry from where the Prosecutor’s Office conducts the investigations, which is the Housing sector. So, there is no way that it will hinder the investigative process of the Special Team, because it has no interference, beyond the request made by a sector of Congress,” said Ipanaqué.
The legal representative also indicated that it is not ruled out that Alvarado López hand over his passport in case of an eventual impediment to leave the country of the Prosecutor’s Office.
“We do not rule out, from the defense of the minister, considering that he hand over his passport in the face of a possible exit impediment requested by the Prosecutor’s Office. Although, in this case, it is being complied with to attend all the subpoenas made by the Special Team. It must be made clear that the measure will be given as long as the request is made based on a criterion of flight danger, “said Geiner Alvarado’s lawyer.
He also pointed out that the Alvarado’s participation in the alleged criminal organization that the president would lead It is due to the accusations of the effective collaborators (Hugo Espino and Elizabeth Añaños), who—according to him—must demonstrate with evidence what was affirmed in the Prosecutor’s Office.
“The fiscal thesis indicates that the Ministry of Housing finances projects in the municipalities, but who does it is the Ministry of Economy and Finance. There is no proof. All the accusations are syndications of both the businessman Hugo Espino and the former deputy minister Elizabeth Añaños, who are in an effective collaboration and who will have to prove it, ”he sentenced.
