Percy Ipanaqué, attorney for Geiner Alvarado—in statements to La República—he did not rule out that his client hand over his passport in the coming days as a defense measure for the investigation carried out by the Special Team against the Corruption of Power led by prosecutor Marita Barreto.
“We are going to discuss it with my client Geiner Alvarado, although we do not rule out handing over the passport if necessary in the framework of the investigation. We are waiting for the official notification from the Prosecutor’s Office to make our corresponding discharge”, Ipanaqué told this medium.
Congress censures Minister Geiner Alvarado
The Plenary of Congress censored Geiner Alvarado with 94 votes in favor, 14 against and 8 abstentions. On this occasion, the Free Peru caucus supported the initiative against the outgoing minister.
The measure was also supported by the groups Fuerza Popular, Avanza País, Popular Renewal, Alliance for Progress, Popular Action and Somos Perú. Meanwhile, the Bloc Magisterial and Cambio Democrático group opposed it.
The legislator Pasión Dávila raised the previous question so that the Constitution Commission be consulted if Minister Alvarado can be censured for events that occurred when he was head of the Housing portfolio; however, it was rejected by the national representation.
