Geiner Alvarado submits his resignation as Minister of Transport after being censored by Congress

This Friday, September 16, he presented his resignation as Minister of Transport and Communications to President Pedro Castillo, one day after being censored by the Congress of the Republic.

In the letter, the former head of the MTC indicated that he is certain that the president will not be vacated “by the obstructionist right and the media power”and considered that the censored one approved against him by Parliament is “unfair and arbitrary”.

“During my tenure as Minister of State, always in coordination with you, the work in favor of the most needy citizens of Peru has been promoted with diligence and effort, through a horizontal treatment towards all and without discriminating against anyone, applying a open door policy seeking to reduce the social gaps that were postponed for years in water, sanitation, tracks and sidewalks, roads and communications”he expressed.

“I am convinced that time will allow to clarify the things that are pointed out against me today and that has led to the Congress of the Republic approving an unfair and arbitrary censorship today”he added.

As remembered, by 94 votes in favour, 14 against and 8 abstentionsthe national representation gave the green light to the motion presented by the Avanza País bench, after being questioned on September 5.

Despite this, Geiner Alvarado filed an amparo action against Congress before the Constitutional Court of Lima for an alleged affectation of due process by the motion of censure that was debated last Thursday in plenary.

Alvarado currently faces at least four tax investigations. One of them is directed by the National Prosecutor for allegedly being part of a criminal network within the Ministry of Housing which would be led by Castillo Terrones.

After its censorship, the Superintendency of Migrations of Peru announced that it has issued a “immigration information alert” on Alvarado, based on the fact that the Public Ministry requested an impediment to leave the country against the former head of the Housing portfolio.

“At the request of the President of the Commission for Control and Comptrollership of the Migration Congress Peru informs that it has issued the migratory information alert of the citizen Geiner Alvarado López in our Immigration and Border Control Posts”Says the message posted on social networks.
