The government of the Federal District decided to transform the central area of Brasília into a special security area. The measure was published this Tuesday (4) in the Official Gazette of the Federal District.
With the decision, every meeting of people or demonstration that takes place in the region must be communicated five days in advance to the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP). The measure was taken about 90 days after the January 8 coup acts in the federal capital.
According to the folder, the decision intends to protect the population and public buildings, in addition to guaranteeing urban mobility during the period of demonstrations.
Simultaneous demonstrations that take place in the same place or that put the safety of the population, public property and the preservation of public order at risk will be prohibited.
According to the Secretary of Public Security, Sandro Avelar, public demonstrations are provided for in the Constitution and will be guaranteed by the local government.
“Holding any kind of demonstration is a fundamental right and expressed in the Federal Constitution, and this will be expressly guaranteed. What we are doing is an adjustment to better protect public buildings, to enable better organization of the security forces and to ensure public order, the integrity of the demonstrators, public property and, also, to guarantee urban mobility”, he said.
The new security area covers the Esplanada dos Ministérios, the North and South road axes, the Bus Station, the Buriti and Três Poderes squares, the region between the TV Tower and the Convention Center and the area of the Alvorada and Jaburu.
