The elected deputy of the People’s Party (PDG) for the 6th district, Gaspar Rivas pointed out that he is not about to support either José Antonio Kast (Republican Party) or Gabriel Boric (Approve Dignity), the two presidential candidates that will be measured in the second presidential round on December 19.
In an interview with The Counter at La Clave, Rivas argued that Kast “is not going to give governance. José Antonio Kast is not going to give social peace or governance, because the mere fact that he is in La Moneda will mean that the radical left political sectors that took to the streets (. ..) They will not agree with their Government, and they will use the same formula that they used during 2020 and 2021, they will go out to generate protests, many of which will generate vandalism. “
And as for Boric, he pointed out that if he wins, “those same radical forces will go out to support.” Along these lines, he considered that “the government that comes we are going to have the same hectic days that we have had in the years 2020 and 2021.”
“People have been fed by the same binary information that in politics there are only two options, either the right or the left, and that there is nothing else besides that in the political universe,” he said.
Asked about where the People’s Party is located on the political spectrum, he said that “I take it as a party that is outside the traditional left-center-right spectrum. It is something different, new, renovating and that breaks with that axis. A binary so nefarious that it has forced or artificially divided Chileans into two irreconcilable camps. “
“The new and different thing is not to focus or be involved in this binary thought,” he added, and in that sense, he indicated that “the People’s Party has the necessary elasticity to introduce all ideas and be the most heterogeneous.” .
Public consultation
In another vein, Gaspar Rivas referred to the citizen consultation announced by the party to define whether they will support Boric or Kast in the second. “It is a decision taken by the directive of the party headed by Luis Moreno, and which has the support of former presidential candidate Franco Parisi.”
“The sense of this consultation is to seek a mechanism that is the most transparent and democratic to inquire about the will of the base. The objective is that it is not exactly the same as all political parties, where decisions are made by the leadership” He added, indicating that it would be held on a date close to the second round.
