A survey by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), released this Friday (10) showed that the average price of a liter of gasoline rose 6.09% in the last week – from R$5.25 to R$5, 57.
Ethanol, on the other hand, had a slight increase, of 2.06%, changing from R$3.88 to R$3.96. On the other hand, diesel suffered a drop of 0.33%, with a reduction in the average price per liter from R$5.93 to R$5.91.
The increase in the average price of these fuels occurred after the federal government confirmed the return of federal taxes on the sector. The announcement of the re-encumbrance on gasoline and ethanol was made by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), in February, with readjustments of R$0.34 for gasoline and R$0.02 for ethanol.
The Federal Revenue reported that the partial reencumbrance of taxes will be valid for four months, that is, until June. The provisional measure on the subject may be maintained in the second half of the year, if Congress decides to convert it into law.
Historic
Last year, former president Jair Bolsonaro zeroed the rates of the Social Integration Program (PIS) and the Contribution for the Financing of Social Security (Cofins) for gasoline, ethanol, diesel, biodiesel, natural gas and cooking gas.
On January 1, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed Provisional Measure 1,157, which provided for the re-encumbrance of gasoline and ethanol from March 1st and that of other fuels on January 1st, 2024.
Before the exemption, PIS/Cofins was charged as follows: R$ 0.792 per liter of gasoline A (without ethanol mixture) and R$ 0.242 per liter of ethanol. Among the possibilities discussed between the executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Gabriel Galípolo, and Petrobras, are the absorption of part of the increase in rates by Petrobras, because gasoline is above the international price, and the redistribution of part of the original rates from gasoline to ethanol. Galípolo and Petrobras representatives met this Monday (27).
