Ukrainian engineers joined forces on Sunday to repair a gas pipeline damaged by Russian forces, cutting off supplies to parts of southeastern Ukraine, Donetsk region governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said.
Engineers closed the pipeline to prevent gas leakage, he said, adding that the flow was falling and would stop completely later in the day.
Kyrylenko said that all locations between the city of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region and the port of Berdyansk will run out of gas while the damage is repaired. The distance between the two cities is 117 kilometers.
“We are working hard to resolve this issue as quickly as possible,” Kyrylenko said.
