From this Monday (23), Caixa begins the third stage of making the cooking gas (GLP) refill voucher available to beneficiaries of the Gás do Povo Program. According to the federal government, the benefit will cover around 4.5 million families registered in the Single Registry for Social Programs of the Federal Government (CadÚnico).
Gás do Povo guarantees free refills for 13-kilogram (kg) cooking gas cylinders to families with an income per capita of up to half the minimum wage.
The value established for the minimum wage in 2026 is R$1,621. Half a minimum wage, therefore, is equivalent to R$810.50 per month. The selection of families is the responsibility of the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS).
According to the government, the expectation is that the benefit will cover 15 million families (50 million people) by March 2026 – including those who migrated from the Auxílio Gás dos Brasileiros and who fall under the rules of the new modality.
“Free refilling of the gas cylinder can be done by the family responsible directly at the resellers that voluntarily joined the program, without intermediaries, through electronic validation on the azulzinha (card machine)”, informed the Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
Validation can be done in the following ways:
– card with Bolsa Família chip and password;
– Caixa account debit card and password;
– CPF with validation code sent to the cell phone registered with Caixa.
“Caixa operates the program and also makes the system available for gas resellers to join since October 23, 2025. To participate, companies must be registered with the ANP, in good standing with the Federal Revenue, have a corporate current account with Caixa and use the blue one as a means of payment”, detailed Secom.
According to the secretariat, in less than two months, the benefit can now be accessed in at least 10,000 accredited points of sale. In this way, one in every six LPG resellers in the country is already connected to the program.
How to apply for the program
To apply for the program, the family must be a Bolsa Família beneficiary with at least two people, have income per capita of up to half the minimum wage and keep CadÚnico updated in the last 24 months.
It is also necessary that the CPF of the family responsible is in order and that the registration does not present pending issues such as registration investigation or evidence of death.
Application
In the Meu Social – Gás do Povo app, families can check if they are eligible, check the status of their recharge voucher and find accredited resellers, as well as telephone numbers and addresses of accredited points.
For people without access to the internet or cell phone, it is also possible to use the top-up voucher through the following options: Bolsa Família Program card (with chip), Caixa debit card or by entering the CPF of the family member on the card machine.
