Gas cylinder explosion leaves one dead and 11 injured in Petare

Civil Protection reported that more than a dozen citizens were transferred to the Doctor Domingo Luciani hospital after being injured by the collapse of three houses due to the explosion of a gas cylinder


Three houses collapsed after a gas cylinder exploded in the La Planada sector of Petare, in Miranda state, on August 12. The incident, which occurred in the morning, left one dead and 11 people injured.

The governor of the state, Héctor Rodríguez, confirmed the event on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter. He explained that the collapse occurred in a three-story multi-family home. He pointed out that there was a gas leak and then the cylinder exploded.

“11 people have been rescued and taken to health centres, unfortunately one person has died. Security forces continue their search and debris removal work,” added Rodríguez about the explosion. 20 minutes after making the post, the regional leader deleted it.

According to reports published on social media, the explosion occurred after 6:20 in the morning. Firefighters from the state of Miranda and Civil Protection (PC) officials, as well as police officers from the municipality of Sucre, remain on the scene.

Images were posted on social media showing local residents helping to remove the rubble from the three houses that collapsed.

“Civil Protection of the Sucre Municipality is responding to a call in Petare, Barrio Unión community, El Bambú Sector, regarding the collapse of a 3-story house due to a presumed deflagration. The commission reports people trapped. They are providing support by taking preventive measures and helping to remove debris and assess the injured or victims,” ​​Civil Protection reported on its social networks.

He added that the rescued people were taken to the Dr. Domingo Luciani Hospital. He added that three citizens were unharmed and are being protected by neighbors (one adult and two children).
